Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire recorded a stunning victory over San Jose Earthquakes when both sides met on Friday night.
The match ended with a 1-0 win scored in the 58th minute by John Goossens. The victory becomes the third of the season. Chicago Fire still remains at the bottom of the League in the Eastern conference, with two points away from 9th place Columbus Crew.
Elsewhere in the league, DC United pick up a point late in the game against Real Salt Lake courtesy of a 90th minute equalizer from Jared Jeffrey. Juan Manuel Martinez had set Real Salt Lake ahead 12 minutes after the break. They were set to claim all three points until the late equalizer from the Washington-based team.
Montreal Impact will take up New England Revolution on Saturday while Toronto FC will trade tackles with Seattle Sounders. Houston Dynamo is also set to play hosts to Philadelphia Union. New York City FC will meet with New York Red Bulls as they try to win their first Hudson River derby on Sunday. Both teams have played four times now since New York City’s introduction to the league in the last campaign. The Red Bulls have won every of the encounter. The last one was one very humiliating defeat as they were humbled 7-0 at Yankee Stadium.
This meeting seems would be different as Patrick Viera has better understanding of the league and the recent wins would be helpful to City’s confidence. With Frank Lampard scoring two goals in the last two games and determined to make up with the fans after they booed him in the 7-0 loss in May, there would likely be improved performances from City. Red Bulls would go into the game with a defeat to Philadelphia Union, but will hope to use the game to return to winning ways. The game sure promises to be an exciting encounter.
