Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has tried to infuse some confidence into the team by claiming that the club are still capable of winning the Premier League title despite falling eight points behind table leaders Leicester City.
Even though Leicester are not fancied win the title, the points difference seems a significant amount considering that there are only nine matches left in the season. Apart from having to Leicester drop points, Arsenal will also need Tottenham to encounter a similar poor run of form in order to get to the top of the table.
Arteta has been unable to feature much for Arsenal this season, as he has been hit by numerous injury issues. He has been able to make only 12 appearances in all competitions while managing to score more goals or creating none. Arsenal currently have a lengthy injury list, which is preventing manager Arsene Wenger from naming a strong starting line-up to take care of all three competitions. However, fans have been criticising the Frenchman for not willing to make sufficient investments in January to strengthen the squad. Arsenal had a quiet January transfer window and they have failed to recover from the poor form that hit them during this period.
Due to European and FA Cup commitments, Arsenal’s next league match is against Everton in the middle of March, when Arteta hopes to take advantage of some restaurant deals in Manchester.
“We have to be very, very careful because I think we have so much desire and ambition to win trophies like the Premier League at the moment. We are going to be there until the end, but we need to find the balance between everybody to be helpful but not push too hard where we destroy that. We have to deal with that carefully as I still believe we have the potential to win and have everything required to win it,” said Arteta.
