DC United have been one of the top teams in the MLS season. They have been top of the Eastern conference table for some time now and this has largely been due to the performances of midfielder Luis Silva. The midfielder scored only three goals last season, but he has already doubled his tally this campaign. He scored a hat-trick in just 45 minutes to match the goal record in 2013. His opening goal came after just six minutes, while his second came in the 39th minute. His field of a wonderful hat-trick with a penalty just before the half-time break.
The match ended in a 4-2 win for DC United over Montréal Impact. Even though their opposition have been struggling down near the foot of the table in the Eastern conference, this was seen as a tough match for DC United, as they hoped to maintain their position at the top of the table. Silva came in for the injured Eddie Johnson. He said that it is good that the manager showed faith in him and picked him to do this vital job in the team. DC United went through a massive overhaul of the squad in the 2013 season. Silva was one of the players who survived that.
“I think I had my spot at the beginning of the season, and it was obviously unfortunate that I got hurt. For me, it was good to get this second start [after returning from injury] and it feels amazing to be able to score and help my teammates get to first place. We had high expectations coming into the season. To be in first place is a blessing, I think. Obviously, everybody is excited – especially after last year, when we were in last place,” said the DC United midfielder about his form.
